Skids
Went out and get taught how to skid a fixed wheel bike last night. Very enjoyable, save my tutor throwing himself over the handlebars in an attempt to perform a bunny hop.

I'm really enjoying the fixed wheel feeling at the moment. It really connects you to the bike, the road and the world around you in a way that nothing else can. It's not better per se but very immediate and visceral. Needless to say, I'm not yet brave enough to go brakeless and doubt I ever will be unless it's on a nice safe indoor track.

As a fixed wheel, it automatically has one brake as resisting the turn of the pedals will automatically slow you down.

The legal standpoint is usually that you should have two brakes and therefore the expectation with fixed wheel bikes is that you have the resistive pedalling and one other braking device. The law is entirely non-commital about what constitutes a brake so a legal grey area is created.

Further confusion is added that it is completely legal to ride a unicycle on the highway and the do not come with any form of manual brake as standard or retro fitable.
